Dr. Leana Wen is an emergency physician and Visiting Professor of Health Policy and Management at the George Washington University School of Public Health. She is also a contributing columnist for The Washington Post, writing on health policy and public health. As an expert in pandemic preparedness and response, she is an on-air commentator for CNN as a medical analyst and has been a frequent guest expert on the covid-19 crisis for CNN, MSNBC, BBC, and National Public Radio.
This session will review the role of the government in a public health crisis. The discussion will begin by examining the concept of public health itself, how it’s linked with federalism, the role of states versus the role of the federal government and how partisanship has affected the response to the COVID-19 crisis.
